3D printing enabled game-changing new products, forever changing user experience and manufacturing. 3D printing of prescription lenses allows for improved traditional lens products and enables manufacturers to create the eyewear of the future.
Learn all about the technology behind 3D printed lenses by Luxexcel in the second Luxexcel webinar. Luxexcel technology is based on a high precision application of the printing material as tiny drops. The technology is very accurate because the droplets are extremely small, the technology is very fast because many droplets are applied at the same time. The technology does not require any type of polishing.
It was great to meet you at Vision Expo East 2019. During the event, attendees got the opportunity to try out 3D printed lenses. The 2019 edition of Vision Expo East was a highlight for Luxexcel. 3 years ago we introduced the technology for 3D printed lenses, 2 years ago we announced our partnership with IFB Solutions and this year’s edition of Vision Expo we are excited to be able to show we have reached the milestone of the commercial phase, shipping lenses daily to patients at IFB, the certification from Colts lab… and the 5000 lenses printed by Luxexcel printers worldwide.
To mark the first year of partnership, IFB Solutions and Luxexcel provided 17 local schoolchildren a free pair of eyeglasses. The eyeglasses featured lenses made with IFB’s 3D printer developed by Luxexcel. It is the world’s first commercial 3D printer of ophthalmic lenses.
Prior to receiving their eyeglasses, most of the children were seen at IFB’s optical center to select the frame of their choice. The children received a comprehensive, dilated eye exam, by an on-site Optometrist to determine their prescription and check the health of their developing eyes.
For several of the children, this will be their first pair of eyeglasses and something both IFB and Luxexcel hope will help them in the classroom. According to Prevent Blindness America, one in four school-age children have vision problems that, if left untreated, can affect learning ability and adjustment in school.
“The children will now be able to see what is happening on the board and have greater clarity when they are reading,” said Dan Kelly, Chief Operating Officer for IFB Solutions. “Plus, they will have bragging rights that their lenses were printed with this very cool 3D technology.”
IFB Solutions and Luxexcel have been partners in bringing 3D printing to the optical industry. Luxexcel optimized the 3D printing technology for the ophthalmic market with IFB coming on board in late 2017 to install the first commercial 3D printer in its optical lab. IFB Solutions uses the technology to help service its optical contracts with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. IFB’s optical lab, staffed primarily by individuals who are blind, averages nearly 1,200 pairs of eyeglasses per day with the majority going to military veterans and their families.
Luxexcel will be presenting at the annual MAFO Conference in Milan, Italy.
MAFO the Conference is the annual gathering of ophthalmic industry experts. This year the lectures cover Future Technologies. 3D printed ophthalmic lenses fit perfectly in this theme.
On May 4th, 2018 Quest Vision Care Specialty Lab and Luxexcel 3D Printed Ophthalmic Lenses jointly hosted a special event at the Quest lab facility. Eighty lab industry experts gathered for an evening of inspiration and information. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to attend a presentation about 3D ophthalmic printing and experience first-hand the Luxexcel VisionPlatform™. Attendees also enjoyed an in-depth tour of the Quest lab facility

The final day of the Strategies in Light show started pretty hectic with quite a lot traffic at the floor. After a couple of hours, the conferences were over and the overall show slowed down. As a result of that, there was increased room for deep going conversations with existing customers and new business relations.
